My only advice is to close them when not in use.....

We've had a couple get destroyed in wind storms when we forgot to close them.

My sister lost an entire 8 person table that way

The amount of force an umbrella can generate in wind is far greater than tempered glass can withstand...or so I hear.

I second having the cover on them in winter too - just be prepared as bugs like to hide in there.
