That was larger than any deficit ND endured during the entire Davieham-Weis era, and ND's largest deficit in the history of the USC series, including any of the games against Pete Carroll. ND hadn't trailed by 40+ points in any game since 1985 at Miami. Even that worst-ever first half at MSU in 1998 topped out at a 39-point deficit, 42-3. ND scored the next 14 in that game and wound up losing 45-23.

The biggest deficit against ASU was 34-3 in the 2nd quarter.
