Dems should nominate Hailey. She’d win the general.

Every dem vote plus pragmatic republicans. One big keep out Trump play.

I know it won’t happen but it would work. History would know that they were the party that did what had to be done. Nominate a moderate Republican to defeat Trump ism.

Nikki Haley is more conservative than Trump

On almost any policy front. So why would Democrats want her?

The best case for Dems at this point is Biden wins. The next best is Trump wins. He won't have any serious person in his cabinet and the courts will tie up most of his executive orders. He'll be largely ineffective like the last time. The worst case scenario was a real conservative with the chops to get something done. Alas, there isn't a major political party that is interested in that.

He will have some very competent

Very loony people with him. Stephen Miller for one.

He'll also install nuts into the national security infrastructure. People are really underestimating the damage he can do without adult supervision.

And 0 incentive not to do whatever he wants.

He doesn't have to worry about reelection. And he really could shoot someone on the White House lawn and you'd still have 34 Republican Senators who wouldn't vote to convict him.

I think we'll start to hear about changing the term limit...

...shortly after Trump is re-elected.

That's not to say he won't still do whatever he wants.

He's immune. *

He could very well

Leave NATO and ecacuate our bases in Korea/Japan. America first and all. Then start bombing Mexico to get the Fentanyl.

People need to come to terms with how nuts it could get. Your protest vote might undo the post WW2 international order.

Embarrassing that you posted this.

First, Haley isn't a "moderate Republican." She's a down-the-line conservative who disagrees with the vast majority of the Democratic electorate on every important issue. Her judicial and cabinet nominees would be indistinguishable from Trump's first-term picks. (Obviously, she would be better than Trump and probably would leave the White House willingly if she lost an election).

"Every dem vote plus pragmatic republicans." Doug, did you fall in the shower this morning? Do you need one of us to drive you to the hospital? Nikki Haley would not get "Every dem vote." Voters are people with free will, not pieces of plastic to be moved around a game board.

Most third party candidate fantasies are just that. But if the two major party nominees were Trump and Nikki Fucking Haley, it is beyond doubt that someone like Newsom would jump in as a third party candidate and get the bulk of Democratic votes. It would be the closest we've ever seen to a Wilson/Taft/Roosevelt election. No idea how it would pan out. Trump might win. Newsom might win. The election might be thrown to the House. But Haley winning would be the least plausible outcome.

Finally, Haley isn't even that good. Chris Christie is absolutely right. She's not up to this. Later this month she's going to get her teeth kicked in by the people who elected her governor twice. She recently endorsed a right to secession. A couple of weeks ago she was asked why she considered Kamala Harris a threat to the country and she went on a non-sequitor rant about Barack Obama. She's better than Trump but mostly speaks in Selina Meyer word salad.
