For what it's worth, I'll repeat another number, indicative of the national polarization: Biden's 7 million margin in 2020 was from just two states: California's 5 million and New York's 2 million. The rest of the country was a wash.

Our national hazard isn't authoritarianism. It's paralysis and inaction. Hard to govern a federal system in which the majority of states are de facto one party states.
