    by Mike Coffey

As Brian Kelly enters his eighth season, trying to extricate himself from the doldrums of 4-8, Irish fans wonder how he’s going to do it and who’s going to help him.

The answers to those questions and much much more can be found in the South Bend Trib’s annual football preview issue.

Meet the new bosses, Mike Elko and Chip Long. Learn more about the old boss and how he plans to right the ship. Get a feel for new Irish QB Brandon Wimbush, a player some Irish observers are calling a once-in-a-generation quarterback. Long-time beat writers Mike Vorel, Tyler James, Eric Hansen, Tom Noie, and the departing Al Lesar give the issue a laser focus with a quality you’re only going to see from guys who spend their time on the Irish and will tell it like it is.

If you’d like a physical copy and South Bend isn’t geographically proximate, you can order one at this link.

On the other hand, those in the digital sphere have options from iTunes and Google Play.

One way or the other, the season will be interesting. Go into it properly informed.

    1. is it possible that BK will depart the sidelines and get comfortable in the press box…

In some amazing seasons the Irish have been looked at with deficiencies. In 88 it was the offensive line- OVERCOME. This season, the pass rushers? There is enough in the coaching booth to make a big difference. I’m prediting a huge turnover advantage. I’m thinking we will be in places (rover) that are unepected. we are going to average 3.5 take aways per game.
On October 22 we should be really hitting our stride. Look up 1977 vs TRoy.

I got a reallyood feeling that we will score first in every game this year.

    3. For the first time in 30+ years of cheering for ND, I am more excited for basketball season than football season.

    4. for a plethora of reasons, this year is virtually impossible to predict preseason

      could be 3-1 or 1-3 by 9/23

either way we’ll know what we have by then (note: I don’t see the possibility of 4-0)

    5. If Brian Kelly is truly not calling the the plays this year as he claims, then, he will not need a headset on gameday. let’s see.

I live in Austin, and after 22 years still haven’t developed a passion for the burnt orange. I still bleed blue and gold. So please please please let this year be a good year for the Irish! I don’t think I will be able to handle another down year especially if the Longhorns turn things around….
