Two future ND lax players were on display this weekend in DC

There was a faux national HS lax championship tournament held in DC between four nationally ranked teams - St. Johns, Taft, Culver, and G-Town Prep. St. Johns took care of G-town Prep and Taft beat Culver to play last night in the championship. Taft won being led by three future ND players - Thomas Ricciardelli, Jeffery Ricciardelli and Chris Kavanaugh (yes, he is the youngest brother). Ricciardelli looks very smooth. Kavanaugh is going to struggle some in college. He is on the smaller and while he can make assists not sure he is quick enough to overcome his size when playing top end Dmen. His other issues is that he talks a ton of needless (and some very dumb penalties. In 2 games he had 4 1 minute penalties (at least 3 were slashes). Thomas Ricciardelli was the goalie for Taft and probably had 20 saves last night. St. John's had a ton of great looks but he did phenomenal job stopping some very tough shots.

OT story on Taft

In the summer of 2005, just before our younger son’s senior year in high school, we visited Taft as part of a survey of schools for a PG year. He was playing both lax and football at the time. We, the parents, loved Taft, but our son was hesitant. He eventually explained that he couldn’t believe their strength/weight facilities. They had a few machines - treadmills, nautilus, etc. - but hardly any free weights other than some smaller hand weights. It kinda looked like what the women’s basketball teams complained about at this year’s NCAA championships. So, as much as his parents loved Taft, he wasn’t having it. [I’m sure their facilities are much improved since that time.]
