Raiding the Patriot League, Notre Dame Adds Four Grads

In 2021, nobody leaned on graduate transfers more than Notre Dame — Will Yorke (Bucknell), David Lipka (Syracuse), Sean Leahey (Providence) and All-Americans Kyle Thornton and Kyle Gallagher from Penn — so it's not a surprise to see the Fighting Irish go that route once again.

So far, four players have decided on Notre Dame in recent months:

- Mike Hawkins, A/M, Colgate — Pulling the trigger on ND early in the spring, Hawkins and former Glastonbury (Conn.) teammate Ronan Jacoby — who will head from DIII Wesleyan to Rutgers — became the first two confirmed grad transfers of 2021. Hawkins started 35 games for the Raiders at both attack and midfield, exploding for 30 goals and eight assists as a freshman to earn Second Team All-Patriot League honors. A captain in 2021, he finished his Colgate career with 96 points and posted a team-leading 19 goals this spring.

- Matt Fedorjaka, DM, Bucknell — Fedorjaka, the son of Bison head coach Frank Fedorjaka, played a critical role as a shortstick defensive midfielder in all 44 games of his Bucknell career after spending his freshman year at Fairfield. The 6'2, 200-pound captain (and former IL summer intern) is a cerebral two-way threat who amassed 58 groundballs, 25 caused turnovers, 19 assists and a pair of goals.

- Jason Reynolds, D, Richmond — A move first reported by Matt Chandik on May 22, Reynolds provides ND defensive coordinator Ryan Wellner with a two-time First Team All-SoCon selection and a likely replacement for Thornton as the unit's lefty cover man. Starting 52 games for the Spiders, the Downingtown East (Pa.) native racked up 105 groundballs and 60 caused turnovers in his four years, earning All-Conference honors as a freshman. Reynolds was a preseason third-team Media All-American to start 2021 after ending 2020 as a HM pick.

- Matt Douglas, LSM/D, Lehigh — While ACC Defensive Player of the Year Jack Kielty has exhausted his NCAA eligibility, the Irish will add one of his former defensive running mates in Douglas, who was named as the NJ Player of the Year in 2017. At Lehigh, the 6'4, 220-pound Douglas contributed at both LSM and close defense and started 15 of the 46 games in which he played, finishing his career with 102 groundballs and 23 caused turnovers, establishing career-highs in both categories as a senior.
