The championship game was actually a series of 6-1 runs. ND led 6-1 after the first half. Duke then went on a 6-1 run in the third quarter to tie the game at 7. Then ND pretty much closed out the game with a second 6-1 run of its own, until Duke scored a meaningless goal in the final minute.
grit and no quit by the Fighting Irish!
I also hope we get a couple more Ivy grad transfers. Our 1 year MBA program is a carrot.
The game certainly is moving in the right direction. Of the 12 teams to win a national championship, five of them (Denver, Duke, Loyola, ND and Yale) all won their first national championship in 2010 or later.
out UVa's Shellenberger based on how well he did in the playoffs (assuming voting isn't done before championship weekend)
Against ND. That probably carried a great deal of weight, even if voting was completed before the tournament.
...as Carc and Quint K., Cotter, etc. have been reminding people all along. Carc thought "last man standing" (who was in the finals) would win, but PKav and O'Neill only score one (Kav) or two points (O'Neill) each.
Their point on Shellenbeger is he was nicked up a lot during the regular season and wasn't his usual self, but he did come alive in the playoffs big time. On the other hand, PKav leads the country in assists and is the engine of the eventual national champions. Should be interesting to see what the voting totals are (if detailed).
