He's a former anti armor specialist in the army. His opinion on this particular topic is the Russians will use these older tanks as mobile artillery while their regular artillery pieces are repaired.

Their ability to aim/target is less than optimal. Quantity has a quality all it's own I suppose.


But they don't have quantity, either.

They're doing this because they've been using even their modern tanks as artillery for some time -- which has disabled a lot of their tanks when the barrels shattered from overuse. And with the Ukrainian counter-offensive coming, with their new Western tanks, the Russians are going to need every modern tank they can get.
