Question for the club baseball crowd.......

Curious how some of you would handle this situation with a big club program. One of the teams in my son's program is coached by a former college baseball player who is in his late 20s. Seems like a decent enough guy but also sometimes manages his 11U team like they are going on 19. In tournaments, he will only bat 9 in big games instead of the normal 11-12 kids, typically benching the same kids each tournament champ game.

The program just went through tryouts for their fall teams and apparently the 11U team decided to bump just one kid from the A team to the B team (there is also another kid who is injured and won't play in the fall). They added two kids from outside the program. However, this team's spring/summer season is still going and that kid is finishing out the season with the A team. The coach informed the team that the two new kids are going to be guest players this weekend in their last tournament.

Now I know the parents and they are nice people and not the crazy parents you see at these tournaments. They have never rocked the boat with the program (a kid on the 12U A team was outright cut after playing in a tournament where he hit 5 HRs, because the director of the program thought the dad was an asshole - he was). But there is apparently frustration mounting with the parents. For starters, after the club director told the family their son was bumped, they thought the coach would maybe talk to the kid and explain why, but the coach has largely ignored it. He also talks to the team about the fall season and what they need to accomplish while the kid is standing there. He apparently also said something to the kid at a tournament last week. The kid missed a squeeze bunt and after the inning was over, the coach walked in from his third base coaching box spot and yelled "Johnny, go bat for Mike next time up" making it clear he was upset with the kid. Two innings later, a kid from the other team laid down a sac bunt and the coach, while the kid who missed the squeeze was sitting there, said, "See, that kid knows how to get a bunt down........."

The father apparently told some of the dads he may lose it if they drive to this tournament this week over an hour and half away and the two guest players who will be added to the fall roster in his son's spot end up playing more than his son. I tend to agree that it would be a shitty thing to do to the kid in his last few games with the team he's played the last 12 months with. But others might say the kid is not in the immediate future plans of the team so it's not wrong that he's not going to get a lot of PT in his last tournament with the team. I am curious what other club parents think.

I have to admit, the more I get into club baseball, the more I realize how sleazy it can be. Too many trophy chasers worried more about winning tournaments who want to charge more fees, asshole parents, coaches who take this shit way too seriously, etc.
