Some major surprises in the Oscar nominations announced this morning. Bradley Cooper was left out of the Best Director category, and the Polish director of Cold War, Pavel Pawlikowski, made it. Willem Dafoe made the Best Actor list and John David Washington did not.

Roma got two acting nominations, and looks like the clear favorite to win Best Picture since it is one of the few to get nominated for Director and Editing as well.

All in all this felt like a down year at the movies. I don't see a lot of all-timers in the field.
