There are separate chains for the fan an light. I did try toggling them throughout this process--it made no difference.

You are probably right about an electrician.

Since you were testing, I assume you checked the breaker?

When I first bought a home years ago my A/C wasn't working so I called a HVAC tech out and he went downstairs, flipped the breaker and charged me $75 bucks. Learned my lesson.
