For example I think it would be fun to have a bunch of pros play some sort of state or regional roulette wheel of a tournament. Have something like 4 different area courses and randomize the draw so you don't know who the partners are or which course you are on until the morning of. That said everyone would play every hole, just the first few days you wouldn't know which course and who with. By the last day you would know the course but wouldn't necessarily be playing on the same course as the guy who you are trying to catch or hold off.
I think that would be a lot of fun to watch. As a bonus you could send them out to some of the courses I played on in high school: 9 Hole Sand greens with a fun "breeze" of 35+ MPH with some 50+ gusts thrown in for good measure.
Wow - without the crowds helping to stop errant shots... man, those bad balls just keep going and going.
I don't take lost ball strokes in ordinary rough.
Courses that would like them (not Pine Valley, they don't want the attention) could take advantage of this situation, but the problem is these events are booked out very far in advance. For example a member of Chicago Golf Club has told me they've tried to get a US Open but haven't been able to because of 1) no room on the course for spectators; and 2) no parking for everyone. So yes, in a no spectator world Chicago Golf Club would work, but the US Open is booked through 2027. I would hope (as a parent to two kids under 4) that Covid won't be an issue by 2028.
Their membership would tell the USGA and PGA to pound sand.
if they wanted to keep the tournament. They were happy to stay as they were.
Kind of a shame as it is a ridiculously good course. Id love to see the current generation of players on it.
Pine Valley has no desire to host a PGA event
