I couldn't tell if you had been there since it is not in the Republic. It has the Dunluce Castle, Giant's Causeway and Bushmill's. It might be pretty raw in January up there, and I can't even be certain those sites are open. [edit - I checked and they are open all year]. There are not many hours of daylight.

As for Belfast itself, I've never been there. I never felt the draw, but I'm not a big fan of the larger cities in Ireland.

If I were in Ireland in January, I'd probably stick to the south. But if you go north, a day trip to the Antrim coast would be worth it if you haven't been.
