In reply to: I’m glad my rant after Friday motivated the boys. I’m sorry  posted by Cbo86

I wasn’t in a position to watch. I was mostly just following it on game tracker.

I agreed with your comments after Friday’s game. It was clear to me, even just following it on gametracker, that Tully was out of gas. And of course he would be, having gone 5 strong innings in the team’s first game of the year. Who wouldn’t be? So when they left him in after he had started the next inning by giving up a walk, a hit, and another walk to load the bases, and when they still didn’t pull him but instead allowed him to stay in there and give up the HR, I just about flipped as well. So I agreed with your comments about not having a feel for things. Losing that game killed me.

Then Saturday things seemed different. We were clobbering the ball and delivering in key situations, with guys in scoring position. We seemed aggressive and also strategic. Dumb luck? I couldn’t tell, but it just felt different. And then today we simply sounded like the better team. It was awesome. Better at the plate, on the mound, in the field, on the base pads, stealing bases, everything. It was kind of amazing. We were simply better. I don’t even know what to think.

Here’s something to brighten your day. There’s a LSU sports guy who apparently was at the game today who tweeted that one of the Irish relievers, freshman Joe Boyle, who was in only briefly, hit 99 mph on the radar gun. Man, if we can find that kind of pitching to go with today’s hitting, this might be a very different team.
