Aoki has set up a do-or-die year for himself next year

If next year doesn't lead to a NCAA bid the future leadership of the program should be examined very closely. There aren't too many positive spins you can put on the last 2 months of baseball.

Getting pounded by MAC teams (and worse) and extremely flawed fundamentals are terrible signs. There were some nice moments early in the season, but those proved to be a mirage over the long haul of the season.

I still expect to hear Swarbrick talk about "progress" and "improved win percentage", but he has to see the issues.

And in that "do-or-die year"

ND went 22-31 overall, 9-21 in the ACC, tied with Virginia Tech for worst in the league. And yet Aoki got four more years.

Worst ACC in-conference records, 2014-present:

11. ND, 59-89 (.398)
12. BC, 51-95 (.349)
13. Pitt, 50-98 (.338)
14. VT, 45-103 (.304)

The only reason ND is in that group

And not in group that includes duke, wake, and Georgia tech is that the AD doesn't care

Also, ND's numbers are inflated by 2015

ND was 17-13, VT 13-16, BC 10-19, and Pitt 9-21. Here are the sorry numbers for the last 3 seasons:

11. ND, 33-55 (.375)
12. BC, 31-56 (.356)
13. Pitt, 30-58 (.341)
14. VT, 23-67 (.256) (egads)

That 33-55 record includes 15-9 vs BC, Pitt, and VaTech. *

with 5 straight losses by a combined score of 48-17 (42-12 in the last 4).

I guess some things never change...even if they should *
