First of all, the ACC Baseball Standings site (linked below) is a dumpster fire. The standings suggest ND has played 6 games (1-5), but the Irish have played 7 (2-5). They show Wake as having played 5 games (2-3), but they've actually played 8 (4-4). They show Pitt as having played 5 games (2-3), but they've actually played 6 (3-3). It's 2019; how hard can it be to actually capture the correct number of games each team has played?!?

On the positive side, the site's issues almost hide the fact that we're in dead last, and the only ACC team with a losing record. Great start to the season.

Once again, pitching is our biggest problem, and our pitching numbers are an affront to the sport. Our team ERA (7.50) is dead last--and nearly 3 runs worse than the second-worst team (UVA @ 4.79). We've given up the most hits, walked the most batters, and have the second-most wild pitches. Embarrassing.

Of course, our defense stinks too. We've already committed 14 errors, which is worst in the conference. Our fielding percentage? Also worst in the conference. We're the only team that hasn't caught an opposing base stealer (0/9 in that category). Oh, we also lead the conference in passed balls with 6. Yeesh.

Finally, our offense is...pretty offensive. Second-worst in runs per game, third-worst in OBP, fourth-worst in SLG, and fourth-worst in strikeouts. In other words, we don't put the ball in play very much, we don't get on base much, and we don't hit with much power. Other than that, I see a lot of potential in this team.

It really is remarkable how far this program has fallen under Sally's watch...

Even worse, ERA might be 7.50, but runs against is 9.86 *

No radio coverage? Was that the case last year or is this a new development? Sad!

We had been disappointed they weren't playing locally

this year. But with the way things are going, it wouldn't be worth the time.
The non-existent offense would be tolerable if they could at least play good defense. There's just no excuse for playing such fundamentally bad baseball.

Planning to see us play in Charleston this weekend but

it maybe a bad scene. The competition isn't first rate so maybe we can get our act together.

News flash...were not first rate *

Swarby will excuse the defense based on "outside" time

In other words, a built in excuse for not catching the ball is that ND is a cold weather team, despite the several days they practiced outside in February due to nice weather (on Field Turf) and the use of Loftus....you can view videos of simulated games/scrimmages on the twitter feed....oh, and since so many colleges are playing on field turf outdoors now, I'm not sure how indoor Field Turf is different than outdoor, but don't let that stop you.

I guarantee at some point you'll hear the excuse that ND wasn't outside enough to play good defense....

The ACC site has always been awful. It's like they fired

their IT guy and nobody has taken the position since forever.

It is frightening to think how bad the program has become. At best it's neglect but at worst our AD has no long term plan to continue the program and is just letting it kill itself.
