I’d rather see defenses have to adjust

A lot of players are adjusting to the rule and going for the ball instead of the takedown. The Lions were coached well on it and it showed against the Pats. You could also see Von Miller against the Chiefs pulling up short on Mahomes. It’s an unfortunate injury for the injured defensive lineman but fans want to see Brady, Brees, Rodgers, etc. playing and not backup QBs.

That's a valid opinion, but one that I do not share. In

essence the ball is the flag (as it is for any player possessing it). I don't wish injury on anyone, but I do believe that the rules to protect the quarterback have gone too far.

A rushing defender must fight through the blocks of linemen and backs, via speed, slick moves, or raw force, then instantaneously transform into a ballerina upon encountering the china doll a/k/a quarterback, lest the delicate flower be bruised. Yes, that's hyperbole, but it's not far from the truth. No other position is afforded that level of protection, and to me it is emblematic of why I am less fond of the NFL than college football. Protection for all players from targeting, late hits, et cetera? Sure. The current rules? No thank you.
