Shocking development.

Brian Kelly did not win the Paul "Bear" Bryant coach of the year award. It was won by Dabo Swinney, for the third time in the last four years.

As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, the Bryant award is the only current CotY award in which the voting takes place after all the bowl games have been played.

In the last 20 years only three coaches have won it without winning a bowl game:

Frank Beamer when he went to the championship game (he led by a point going into the 4th quarter and then FSU took over).

Gus Malzahn when he went to the championship game (he lost a heartbreaker in the final seconds of the game).

Bill O'Brien (Penn State was ineligible for a bowl game).
