Super Bowl LIII is still three weeks away, but the Colts will be playing today, this time in the role of underdog rather than heavy favorite.

The NFL/AFL draft was a couple of weeks later.

Two weeks after the Super Bowl. No time for interviews, Wonderlic, Combine, private workouts on campus, etc.

Just pick OJ at #1 and go quickly.

All 17 rounds over two days. No live tv.

The last time the NFL and AFL held separate drafts

was on November 27, 1965, for the 1966 season. The college season wasn't yet over. ND played at Miami that night (0-0 tie, the last scoreless game in ND history). The drafts were held in November or December from 1956-57 through 1965-66, although for the first four of those year, the NFL split its early rounds from the later rounds, which were held in January.

The 1943-1945 drafts were held in April, but after that they weren't in the spring again until 1976.
