conference title game in the Super Bowl era?
What two teams have gone the longest without hosting a conference title game? That is a better phrasing of the question. The Chiefs were tied with these two teams but finally got on the board.
Is they will always be at the bottom of any Super Bowl era statistic. I would bet the Browns make it to Super Bowl before the Lions ever sniff the big game.
Bobby Layne was right, this franchise is cursed.
that has gone just as long as the Lions without hosting a conference title game, which is the entire Super Bowl era, is the Tennessee Titans.
The @Chiefs span of 52 seasons without hosting a conference championship was the 3rd-longest in the Super Bowl era.

Most Seasons Until Hosting Conference Championship - Super Bowl Era
Lions >53
Titans >53
Chiefs 52
Falcons 46
> Active streak
The only championship game the Jets ever hosted was the AFL title game at Shea in 1968. Their only championship games since then were losses on the road at Miami in 1982, Denver in 1998, Indy in 2009, and Pittsburgh in 2010. That would make their streak 50 years and counting. They also have only 2 division titles since the merger, which I believe is the fewest of any team in that era (even the Lions have 3).
Dig down a bit, and we find several teams that used to host championship games rather routinely have gone a long time without doing so. Current active streaks, with he number each team has hosted in the Super Bowl era in parentheses.
Buccaneers (1): >39
Chargers (1): >38
Bengals (2): >30
Browns (2): >29*
Redskins (5): >27
Dolphins (6): >26
Bills (4): >25
Cowboys (6): >23
Vikings (4): >20
Jaguars (1): >19
Giants (2): >18
Rams (4): >17
Texans (0): >17
* - Not counting the 3-season hiatus between old and new Browns, which the NFL regards as one franchise.
Longest streaks that have ended, other than those earlier listed:
Cardinals: 42 (1966-2007; hadn't hosted since 1947 NFL Championship at Comiskey Park)
Saints: 42 (1967-2008)
Colts: 35 (1971-2005)
Patriots: 30 (1966-1995; never hosted an AFL championship, either)
Seahawks: 29 (1976-2004)
Packers: 28 (1968-1995)
But, hell, so were you!
Wait til next week!
I guess there’s nothing else to do now but to bow to your magnificence.
Again, until next week, when the Pats will be barbequed n Kansas City!
(Sorry, I’m just a very frustrated Bills fan.)
Brady will be scrubbing the kitchen floor while Gisele supervises in her leather teddy. Belichick will be hoodie shopping at the local mall.
in Atlanta. Bookend Brady’s career with a win over the Rams.
Stone.
The road to Atlanta goes through Arrowhead Stadium.
17 at home, only 2 on the road (both losses at Denver). Gillette Stadium has hosted 21 playoff games in 17 seasons of existence. Their previous stadium (Schaefer/Sullivan/Foxboro) hosted only 5 in 31 seasons (4 in its final 6).
As sick to death as I am of the Patriots, at least next week will place them -- and the entire league -- in a new venue for a championship game. The NFC venue will be unfamiliar too -- New Orleans has hosted the title game only once (2009), and the Rams have hosted it in LA only twice in the last 63 seasons (1975 and 1978).
in the Brady/Belichick era:
2014 -- Kansas City 41, NE 14
2005 -- Kansas City 26, NE 16
2004 -- NE 27, Kansas City 19
Given the results last time, a little bit of caution might be in order.
3-1 in the Brady/Belichick era is going to feel good.
