While the 80s and 90s were generally boring blowouts (excepting 1989, 1991 and 1998), since 1998, it seems like every other year there is a classic that will make all-time NFL highlight reels. Thrilling plays, unique finishes, incredible comebacks.

Elway helicoptering for the first down.
Dyson stopped.
Venatieri game winner with no time left to avoid the first OT Super Bowl.
Tyree.
Holmes's TD catch after the Arizona comeback.
Manningham.
Butler's goalline interception.
Patriots' 19 fourth quarter points.
Philly Special.

These are all-time league moments.

And while you won't see it in highlight reels, you had the actual possibility in the 49ers-Ravens that a fair catch free kick could decide a game.

And as filler, you get an Eagles onside kick with 2 min left and the Packers clinging to a 3 point lead for the last 7 minutes of the game. And another Venatieri game winner.

You are correct about all that.

I am just jaundiced because of Patriot-fatigue, and because my old favorite team has never made it to the Super Bowl. Ever. I am bitter.
