linked below is the story of "George Tirebiter: USC Mascot"

George Tirebiter was a dog-a mutt who became USC's official mascot in the 1940s- long before the first Traveler (horse) mascot came along in 1960

George Tirebiter got his name for what he liked to do best-run in traffic and bite the tires of passing cars (at least the slower moving ones)....he wasn't as impressed with bicycle tires....eventually that hobby did him in in 1950....he was replaced by a couple other dogs-but they weren't the same (one was afraid of crowds)....

There is a now statue of George Tirebiter on the USC campus
