I'd be happy to back up the truck for a proven coach. I wouldn't overpay just because my first choice turned me down and I didn't want multiple rejections

MSU could presumably have hired most any assistant in the country or any non-P5 head coach. Should find a reasonable number of candidates there.

I'd also be a bit concerned about how it went down. If he has big success, shouldn't come as much of a surprise if he leaves for another program.
