My dad, my brother and I also became stamp collectors. My dad lived next door to Rockne when he grew up in South Bend on E. St. Vincent St. My wife saw the stamp on the letter when she picked up the mail. She tore the stamp off of the letter, because she thought I would want to keep the stamp. Unfortunately she did understand the significance of a postmarked “First Day Issue” letter. I couldn’t stay mad at her, since she did it out of love.
