I imagine that it won't be very long till the ACC, SEC and B12 players also form a group. I wonder if ND players will align with the ACC group should one be formed.

Among the Big Ten players' demands:

Third-party, approved by players, to administer COVID testing and to enforce all COVID-19 health and safety standards

Sufficient penalties for noncompliance.

Mandate for athletics personnel to report suspected violations.

Whistleblower protections for athletics personnel and college athletes reporting a suspected violation.

Ban the use of COVID-19 liability waivers.

Automatic medical redshirt for any player who misses any competitions due to a positive test or a mandatory quarantine due to contact tracing.

Preserve athletic eligibility, scholarship, and roster spot for any player who opts out of athletic participation or is unable to play more than 40% of their scheduled season due to COVID-19 or season postponement/cancellation.

Coverage for all out-of-pocket medical expenses related to COVID-19 (both short-term and long-term) incurred by active college athletes.

No waivers and unlimited lifetime medical payments ?

It's the organization behind the Big 10 United. This link gives the full text of what they want.

So you get an automatic medical redshirt even if you miss

only *one* game due to a positive test? That proposal came straight from Mr. Roarke on "Fantasy Island".

Most of the rest appear doable. Maybe that item is a throwaway to make it look like they are giving something up.

Preserving roster spot may be iffy

Coaching staffs regularly decide which players to ask back for a 5th year, based on the team's needs and the player's ability. Some players, in normal circumstances, would never get that added year; and the pandemic shouldn't change that. This affects not only seniors and res-shirt seniors, but also underclassmen. It's unfortunate for them, but at least the transfer option will be open if they've graduated.

The red shirt for missing 1 game is silly. Everything else

Seems fine. They will have to increase the scholarship limits if you have too many players getting an extra year or else there will a lot of transfers.

Actually, that is a very nice list.

It tells me players have already witnessed some shenanigans going on.

At least they have enough common sense to keep it COVID
