An astounding combination of poor GM choices, coaching incompetence, and bad luck at the most important position on the field since then. I agree - the incompetence would have done them in even had they flopped into a magician such as Mahomes.

Hey. The Bobby Douglas end over end flat pass was a sight

the most underrated part of that trade

was that the Bills HC, McDermott, was an assistant under Reid and credited Reid with a lot of his success. So the Chiefs worked out the trade for the 10th pick before the draft and had it set up weeks before the draft. Draft pick terms were already agreed to...it just depended on Mahomes being available.

Supposedly, the Saints were very interested in taking him with the following pick at 11. Texans were evidently interested in taking Mahomes with their pick in the 24 range...then we took Mahomes and they traded up to 12 to take Watson.

Even worse

What seemingly always goes overlooked is not just the Trubisky vs. Mahomes/Watson side, but remember they also traded picks to move up one slot. That 67th overall pick, 3rd round, turned into some guy named Alvin Kamara.

Just think, the Bears not only could’ve had Mahomes or Watson but also Kamara. That’s really how bad they botched it.
