Steve Niehaus didn't come to ND until '72, so he didn't blow his knee out in a 1970 practice. I believe he blew it out in '72 and then the other one in '73 . . . as I recall. The SE topic is a really good one. The Devine era had some good ones as well (e.g., Kris Haines, Dan Kelleher).


Washington got hurt in '72, same practice as Niehaus

Washington was a junior, Niehaus was a Freshmen starter.

Washington was going to get his first start ever vs Missouri in 1972 because Willie Townsend was hurt

Washington was a '70 Frosh BUT wasn't hurt in practice until his junior year...perhaps I could have written the above better...hope that clears up any confusion
