Probably.
His performances against the better teams on the schedule were poor. There is also the thought that he wasn't even play caller at Memphis.
...he's ready !
Otherwise, why the hell not...
Own it, Jack.
But, hey, you know, hats off to Bob Diaco for that...
coaching staff...It would break the universe
Absent the coaching staff, of course.
Whereas Kelly’s coordinators leave for lateral jobs or schools below the power five level. His coaching tree is truly unimpressive, especially compared to Saban’s.
HC job? I realize Wisconsin was a bottom feeder at the time, but they were still in a major conference, although I feel like merely being a member of a particular conference, regardless of success in that conference, was less meaningful back then.
I think Saban will aim much higher.
Just maybe, Saban thinks more of him than you do. Also, he may be one of several candidates and may not be their first choice. All in all though, we are turning into a farm team for SEC teams looking for assistants.
Zero. None. Absolutely none.
Maybe I'll win the lottery.
I would say this is getting comical if it weren't so demoralizing.
I mean, not publically ("...only goes to show that we're doing it right at ND..."), but seriously.
What a shit show.
Own it, Jack.
JS is saying to everybody, "look at who hired our coordinators. I've done it once and can do it again"
But Jack, you lost those guys in lateral moves. And Long went to Saban who is known for two things: being tough to work for and getting his guys hired as head coaches. BK is only known for one of those things.
* A sellout in the first big home game of 2017, but filled with fans of the competition
* Staff that leaves after they prove themselves at ND - if they could do it here, they can surely do it where "things are easier".
* Players that leave early for the draft
* etc., etc.
He's not having to do the fundraising any more, he's delegating, he's left no stone un-turned.
He's more proven and loved than ever !
A more difficult recruiting environment. The new staff worked really hard and averted an all out disaster, but we could have done so much better with a 10-2, or even a 9-3 season. Winning counts, especially with elite recruits.
10-3, 10-3, 10-3...now we'd start to look like a consistent program, and to your point, maybe we would start to get some 5* studs to get us over the top. But inconsistent fundamentals, break downs in S&C, game plans too heavily focused on QB decision making and precision throws v. beating up inferior opponents...
Agreed the staff has stepped up recruiting, but, if we have the right person that should have been the case starting in year 2 or 3 at the latest. Not a concern in year 8.
Choir preaching, I know.
"We're Getting the Band Back Together 2018"
...which consisted of games 1-5 before BK stepped in and showed him how to call an offense and groom a QB...
mysteriously abandon the run at the tail end of the season.
In all seriousness, if the choice is Kelly versus Saban to learn and grow under why even bother listing reasons for departure. Even at less pay, and we all know it won’t be for less pay, the choice is an easy one.
He'll get coached as hard as the players. He'll learn a ton. He'll make a ton of money. Then, he'll get a really good head coaching job.
He’ll be crucified
Still a no brainer but there’s a bit of risk in taking a job with an expectation of complete perfection from top to bottom.
long enough to notice.
an anemic Georgia team at home and got destroyed by Miami in 2017 is in the running to be OC at a team that has won 5 NCs in 8 years? [I was mistaken that Long was here in 2016. I thought he was here that year but in practice deprived of playcalling authority.]
And our ex-DC is now the highest-paid coordinator in CFB (at least top 3 without incentives).
Our OL won the Joe Moore Award, Jaylon Smith would have been the #1 overall pick in 2015, Kyle Rudolph is a Pro Bowl MVP, Will Fuller went in the first round -- the list of outstanding players goes on and on.
Irrefutable proof that the only thing that has been standing between Notre Dame and a championship is Brian Kelly.
Long wasn’t OC in 2016. Rudolph played 6 games for Kelly
Of Kelly’s success or failure in developing players. He played 6 games for Kelly. It allowed Eifert to emerge.
And, again: he left early.
he could have come back and got injured again.
He will give us his next version of reality here shortly.
1. Savvy actually did find some good coordinators; and
2. Savvy failed to realize that these good coordinators wouldn’t want to work for long for a boss who was inferior to them as a coach, which made this whole 2.0 strategy an ill-conceived effort.
Maybe?
We are a second rate program. Kelly
and the offense won’t miss a beat!
And, what would you expect: we've picked the GVSU coaching tree bare !
