Julian Love did not have a good Combine. Only a 4.54.

14 bench reps.

While none of our guys — not Drue, not Miles — got mentioned as a “Winner” in the Combine, Mr. NFL.com Guy was more than happy to put Julian on his “Loser” list.

Teams love any reason to knock a guy down so they can pay him less. Julian’s on-field play speaks for itself, but a 4.54 from a DB is probably worth about -$1M on the rookie contract.

Really surprising from him.

Was he expected to run faster?

Love is a great cornerback, but his main strength has never been his speed.

Currently projected as a nickel back.

Meaning he isnt projected as a 4-down player. I'd guess that means about a 3rd-4th rounder. You can make a nice career at that, although you won't ever be a max contract player.

PS Nickelback sux.

rookie contracts are largely determined by draft position

so if the man is knocking him down to pay him less, then someone else moving up in the draft would get paid more.

And 4.54 isnt great for a 190lb corner, so he did lose a bit at the combine, athough I dont think the less than speedy time was a big surprise.

He's a good player in the end, but speed is not a strength.

He can also re-run at it the ND Pro Day in a couple of weeks

if he had an off day/thinks he can improve. Though that's not a whole lot of time to train.

But you're right, his play the last few years *should* outweigh the combine spectacle.

Teez Tabor wouldn't agree...then again the lions picked him
