2021 QB Tyler Buchner commits to Notre Dame...
by Marine Domer (2019-03-08 18:26:33)

Good news to start the weekend.

"The 6-2, 200-pounder committed to Notre Dame over offers from Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, USC, Michigan, Arizona, Arizona State, Nebraska, San Diego State, TCU, UCLA, Utah and many others."

Thanks for posting - that's good news. All these "if - but"

...posts are silly.

As if anybody on the board doesn't understand that some recruits that make a verbal commitment:
- end up later switching to another school.
- their rankings can go down, or can even go up (look at Kyle Hamilton who was listed as a 3-Star and one service has him now at a 5-Star due to his senior year performance).
- end up not living up to their rankings.
- that all stated offers might not be totally legit.

Is it necessary to "fart" on good news, perhaps to later proclaim yourself "Karnak," if it happens...and later post, "I told you so."

This verbal is nothing but a positive, with the potential of things possibly changing. Other elite schools are still going to go hard to try to steal him (Alabama and Michigan stole recent ND QB verbal recruits), but this is a much better position to be in, than not to be in.

This verbal is currently ranked (by "247") as the #2 Pro QB and the #2 ranked player in California...when is the last time that happened? He might end up being the highest QB recruit that has verballed to ND since Jimmy Clausen. It is extremely important to start off recruiting with some elite players, especially at QB. This could help ND land some of the highly ranked WRs that ND has been missing on lately (in both 2020 & 2021), as well as other positions. When elite players verbal, then other elite players will normally take a deeper look at ND as an option.

I have been pleased with a lot of the talent that ND has recruited, but disappointed that their overall recruiting rankings have not been in the Top 5 (where ND needs to be), let alone in the Top 6 to 10 in "Off Recruiting Years." Our recent underperformance with recruiting results, has been primarily due to the lack of recruiting 2 to 3 elite players each year, which also leads to higher average rankings for the rest of the class.

However, ND needs to get in elite players early to be able to recruit classes in the Top 5. This is a very good indicator that ND may pull it off in this class, and hopefully lead to better classes in the future to consistently be in the NC hunt. His verbal could possibly have an impact on this upcoming 2020 class, as well as his 2021 class.

He is still a Top 50 recruit two years from now and ND recruits
two Top 50 receivers to catch his passes....Kelly has 5 early
commitments for next year and they have dropped dreadfully on
the charts including his QB.

What if he isn't a Top 50 QB 2 years from now?

What's supposed to happen then? Should Kelly drop him because he dropped in the eyes of recruiting "experts?" Pretty sure he's gotten grief for not taking kids that didn't develop after accepting an early commitment.

He's also gotten grief for not regularly landing his first QB target. Well he did that here.

Seems like he's being put in a trick box on this particular subject.

Offer lists are highly questionable

With the way schools extend offers to kids nowadays, it's difficult to discern the validity of any player's list.

That's certainly true.

But when a school offers and heavily pursues, the offer seems valid.

His DC is Shane Walton, who also serves as Asst. AD. So

And pricey.

The Catholic School in town is one of the premier football programs in SD and beyond. Cathedral Catholic. CCHS plays a rigorous schedule.
