I think it's very likely that only one player from the group you mentioned will become a consensus 5 star player, so that bumps the Irish up to 2... if Kelly can get a couple of 5 star kids in every class, well it's certainly an improvement over last year where he didn't have a single consensus 5 star guy on the roster, but it's damn sure well behind of where the Irish need to be if they are going to win championships. That was the big difference between Clemson and the Irish last year, ND actually had more 4 star players, but Clemson always landed at least a couple of 5 star players in each of those classes, adding up to 8-9 more 5 star guys than the Irish... hence why Kelly got outgunned in that game pretty hard.
And while Kelly seems to (finally) be improving on that front, the chasm between Clemson, Alabama, UGA, etc., and the Irish seems to be growing further. It's good that Notre Dame is improving, don't get me wrong. It's just shameful that it's taken Kelly 10 years to come around to this point, this is where the Irish should have been (and where Clemson actually was) around 2013-2014, not 5-6 years after that...
people might realize Kelly's system does not, cannot and will never work. it is a turd.
offense. I'm ok with Kelly seeming to hand over the reins on defense, as long as it's not to an incompetent nitwit, but he has desperately been needing an offense with an identity, ideally one that fits the type of offensive lineman ND recruits.
I think that's the main reason Kelly keeps shooting himself in the junk with respect to recruiting RB's and WR's, they have no clue how they'll be used in this offense, other than to catch 5-10 yard passes.
Would Kelly's offense look a lot better with better players? Of course, but he needs to think long and hard about what attracts better players on that side of the ball in the first place.
an offense to systems.
Don't always agree with Mr Cross but on this one he is spot on.
Helmet head.
that some of the guys won’t end up signing on the line which is dotted, that some of the guys’ ratings will drop, or a combo of the two?
Both circumstances have happened to NDFB with alarming regularity.
And, yes, I am aware that the linked article is not The Sporting News or the New York Times.
Other schools will sweep up the currently uncommitted five stars and pass us in the rankings.
Yet I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if they were among those schools that eventually pass us by, even with lame duck Clod Helton in charge. That would sting.
maybe we will skyrocket to 9
or Michigan in the past 10 years. We have recruited worse than Clemson (in the past 5 years), Alabama, LSU, and Georgia. Florida is probably on par with us.
Thus, those numbers are not surprising. And they do not support the conclusion that Everyone Recruits 3 Stars, so ND Is The Same As Everyone Else.
