How effective will the running game be this year?

Can we pound it?

The line seems to be the strongest art of the equation. Eichenberg, Kraemer and Hainsey are solid players that are a year older and stronger. Banks should be ready for Georgia. Patterson takes over at center and is a physical upgrade to Sam Mustipher. The backups are Lugg and Ruhland, but beyond that we are looking at untested freshmen and sophomores. We could be screwed if one of the starting tackles goes down. Tight ends Kmet and Wright should be a plus in terms of blocking up front.

The backs are more of a concern. Armstrong looks to be the primary guy, but he proved to be fragile last season. Tony Jones is tough and can catch the ball, but he won't break many runs over 10 yards. Sophomores Smith and Flemister are serviceable but no threat to the two upperclassmen. If Armstrong can't take the workload, the question is whether freshman Kyren Williams can step in and contribute. I don't know if he can pass block, so don't ask.

With this line and a healthy Armstrong, the running game can be well above average. If Armstrong is on the sidelines, things could quickly slide back into mediocrity.
