Putting any MAC school in with Ohio State and Michigan is criminal. Forde must have a lot of extra time on his hands.
There’s nothing to write about so lets make things up.
... importantly, what is does to ND's game schedule, I think it is an objectively good idea from the standpoint of travel, regional rivalry, and determining a national championship.
That said, the power schools and conferences will reject it out of hand. Absent the sports scene getting a lot worse, it will go nowhere.
The problem is assuming there are 120 teams that should be on equal footing. That's absurd. There is a good reason for power conferences, and mid-tier conferences, and intersectional games. It's part of what makes college football different from the NFL, and in a good way.
It locks in too static of a schedule.
Change it to 6 team divisions/conferences. Play the other 5 teams in your division and then the entirety of one other division on a two year rotating basis --- maybe grouping semi-geographically to reduce travel a bit.
Is the "southwest" conference just all schools in Texas and Oklahoma?
These are so dumb, but there is so little to talk about.
with Western Kentucky? I for one have never been to Bowling Green, Kentucky. We'll be hitting our stride in Year 3 of Air Rees and what an opportunity for Touchdown Tommy to hang 27 on the Big Red. Maybe we can do a service project in nearby Daniel Boone National Forest, like an effort to save the indigenous populations of ruffed grouse, wild turkey, and waterfowl. What you scoff at as fiction, I embrace as a dream.
The Yankee conference is horrific. The Penn State football schedule would look similar to most of JoePa's career though.
Army
BC
Buffalo
UConn
Maryland
UMass
Navy
Penn St.
Pitt
Rutgers
Syracuse
That was a typical pre-Big Ten slate for Joe Pa.
Brain-dead article.
there are some interesting scenarios that can be discussed in the 2022- 2024 media negotiation realignment window that the bandwidth wasted on this is shameful
Nobody will go for ditching the entire Power 5 Conference structure to realign with the Group of 5 teams.
Putting teams in conferences with geographic proximity is not a bad idea for all the non-revenue sports. But it won't fly for Football or Basketball where there are deep seated traditions.
Sorry but a Conference with ND, Marshall, Middle Tenn, Northern Illinois, and Western Kentucky even if it contains 7 members of current Power 5 conferences is a non-starter.
That conference is the kind of schedule he covets.
the Power 5 teams realigning among themselves would make some sort of sense. ND agreeing to be in a conference with Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee is absurd.
Seriously.
We are that devoid of leadership and vision.
