We have byes before playing Pitt and Wake Forest. It looks like Louisville has an extra *day* before playing ND.

Duke, Louisville, NC State, Pitt, and Wake Forest. Barf. *

Duke and NC State finished in AP top 35, FWIW.

Duke - 26th; NC State - 33rd.

What evidence is that that byes help

in anything other than recovery from injuries?

In many cases, teams seem to get rusty from the layoff and play worse.

Did we lose to anyone last year who had a bye the week before? Sure didn’t seem to help Clemson much.

(Ducks)

Fwiw, Marshall played Norfolk State the week before playing us, so kinda sorta a bye.

That lends credence to a different argument.

I actually think byes are more helpful after big games than before them. You’re often physically beat up, and mentally (no matter whether it’s a win or a loss, but for different reasons) it can take a few days for you to get back into fully-prepared mode in the days following a big game. But most people talk about the benefit of a bye before the game rather than afterwards.

There isn’t any concrete evidence.

The whole “wahhhh we have to play teams after their byes!!!” is a ridiculous and weak argument used by Sampson/One Foot Down/etc. to make us look better than we are. It’s the same thing as the ACC win streak- who cares?

Do we think Alabama fans would even care, let alone bring it up right and left, if it happened to them?

I agree with this for the most part

I do think it is evidence of the ACC's general desire to fuck us, and our general seeming unwillingness to stick up for ourselves in these sorts of arrangements. But that's more about intentions than actual impact.

That would not surprise me. *

By the time the season begins it will be almost eight calendar years since we lost to an ACC foe after they had a scheduled bye week. Not surprised they bagged the idea.

why do we even care?

We havent lost to an ACC team during the season for over 5 years. In past seasons, they had byes in most weeks prior to ND. Doesnt seem to have meant anything.

Maybe they decided to stop wasting their byes

I wouldn’t expect Vanderbilt to continue to utilize a bye before the Georgia game

Is the October bye still associated with Exam week? *

This year, there is not. And some here have speculated that

Jack is allowed to submit the weeks for foes (and thus determine the bye week). In this case, he could have given the student-athletes a free week before finals week to rest for USC and get studying done. But curiously our traitor AD, chose the other option.

There is not always a bye associated with fall break.

For example, in 2011, 2013, and 2017, we played Southern Cal at the beginning of fall break but then played another team the week after at the end of fall break.
