This thread is borderline conspiracy theory stuff.

Will was diagnosed with a serious heart condition. You can poo-poo that all you want, but it makes this board look dumb.

Don't they need to kick 2 more off the team by May?
by MrE  (2023-03-22 18:20:43)     cannot delete  |  Edit  |  Return to Board  |  Ignore Poster   |   Highlight Poster  |   Reply to Post

in order to do the "choose between a degree from ND or playing football elsewhere" ultimatum thing?

Or even more if they intend to shop for free agent safeties, DT, and OGs?

I thought in order for the kids getting pushed out by Freeman to stay on academically at ND, it has to be within a certain period of time from Freeman's date of hire.

And that timeline would equate to May for new-coach loophole rule (and why Freeman was talking about May being the deadline to "roster manage" his way down to 85).

Alternately, he has no scholarship and because he had injury

issues last year, he preferred to stay in school instead of transfer because he's a kid that had Ivy League offers coming out of high school. And medical retirement has a ring to it that helps ND look good in return for him staying in school. Because ND is going to desperately try to avoid looking like they are kicking kids off the team despite knowing full well that's what they're doing.

Schweitzer posted on twitter that he has a heart condition.

Maybe best not to jump to conclusions on this one.

obviously we wish him the very best...

but I'll point out how fortunate he is to get a free ND education. I mean if this had been diagnosed 18 months earlier, he'd be on his own, wherever. Best wishes for good health though!!

he said he had a medical event in Sept

and was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. So in this case, appears he really is medically retiring.

PFO- Calling Dr. Cash

"Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a hole between the left and right atria (upper chambers) of the heart. This hole exists in everyone before birth, but most often closes shortly after being born."

Without knowing the full extent of Will's issue, I am familiar with PFOs (family member). Isn't this very fixable with a Amplatzer Septal Occluder which is inserted through the groin into the heart? It's like a little alloy cocktail umbrella that closes up the hole. Of course, it may depend on the size of the hole for this to work.

Back on the street within weeks after some time on blood thinners...Rick

Are you saying Schweitzer’s injury may not be serious? *
by MrE  (2023-03-23 10:37:18)     cannot delete  |  Edit  |  Return to Board  |  Ignore Poster   |   Highlight Poster  |   Reply to Post

Pretty much based on our experience
by RJD  (2023-03-23 14:23:57)     cannot delete  |  Edit  |  Return to Board  |  Ignore Poster   |   Highlight Poster  |   Reply to Post

Of course I don't know all the facts regarding Will's case but the procedure to close the hole has been done for years with great success.

Note: a PFO is not an injury.

We all have a hole in the heart at birth but for 25% of the population, the hole doesn't completely close. The operation closes the hole...Rick

interesting... *

It isn't hard to find a doctor that recommends you not play football at this level because, frankly, it's usually not a great long-term idea to play football at this level.

That they really do have medical issues, no? They aren’t playing tiddly winks.

no doubt - Cam Hart, Eli Raridon, Kevin Bauman.

Those guys have had serious medical issues the last couple of years.

I'm sure the list is long.

— Roster updates: Missing as expected from the official roster are cornerback Philip Riley, safety Justin Walters, offensive tackle Caleb Johnson, linebacker Will Schweitzer, and kicker Josh Bryan.

— Conversely, present and on the roster—amid much off-season information and speculation to the contrary—are cornerback Ryan Barnes and nose tackle Aidan Keanaaina.

cutting AK would be a foolish mistake
by jt  (2023-03-22 11:37:53)     cannot delete  |  Edit  |  Return to Board  |  Ignore Poster   |   Highlight Poster  |   Reply to Post

all the homer recruitniks whine that we can't get big kids in the middle who can move, and then we get one and they're all ready to move onto the next guy as soon as the kid encounters some difficulty.

At a minimum, if he can't contribute on the DL (which I don't think is the case, but whatever), take a look at him at OL; he was outstanding at guard at Mullen.

Your fellow 49er agrees; IMO, AK will be a star.... *

On the defensive linemen improving and becoming vocal leaders

“Coach Wash has done a great job with that group. We’ve got some vocal leaders. Nana Osafo-Mensah is a vocal leader. He raises the energy and performance of those around him. Riley Mills is more vocal. Howard Cross doesn’t speak a lot but he’s more vocal. You don’t replace Isaiah Foskey or the Ademilola twins, but you have to replace their production. It’s not by one person, but throughout the top two or 2.5 units, you have to replace that production. l’m excited for the development of that room. I’m excited about Javontae Jean-Baptiste and the young guys. I think of Aiden Gobaira and Jason Onye and Tyson Ford and Gabe Rubio and all those guys, Donovan Hinish. You have to find at some point the emergence. You will use probably eight guys for sure, maybe 10, so it’ll be exciting to see the emergence of those guys. Something cool I saw with the defensive guys, every day they will announce starters for practice and give guys different roles. I’m excited to see the development of that group specifically.”

Of course, you certainly don't have to do that either. Free will is a great thing.

Not sure about interior DL.
