This has been a long-term goal under Fr. Jenkins. It's noteworthy here because it arguably diminishes a non-sports rationale for joining a conference (which might otherwise have helped bolster the chance of membership).

Of the 71 AAU schools, ND is only one of seven private schools that do not have a medical school. The others are MIT, CalTech, Princeton, Rice, Carnegie Mellon, and Brandeis.
