I guess unless they have an Irish temper :)
ND had the proper response like they didn't give a shit about Wisconsin. Go ahead, get in your little cheap shots, here comes Drayk Bowen, Adon Shuler and Tionne Gray to let you know what we really think of you.
If you notice on the blocked punt on the game replay, Talich pushes a Wisconsin guy from behind almost 5 yards. There were some, but as you say the second guy is the one who makes the mistake. Better to kick ass and win. That is the best answer rather than a silly penalty.
It was especially blatant in the first half. Wisconsin seemed to be trying to establish the fact the weren’t going to be intimidated, and there were several instances of late pushing of ND players after the play.
One was on Jordan Faison, who just turned his back and kind of laughed at the guy. The second was on a run play and James got hit pretty hard on the play. Wisconsin players got fired up and one of our linemen (couldn’t see who it was because the numbers were unreadable) pulled him away from it.
It got way less chippy when ND scored out of half, and Wisconsin lost a lot of their emotion. Was glad to see ND remain calm and not fall for that BS, just take care of business.
for his reward. It looked deserved. Opinion?
We had the sound off (like every NBC game with Garrett).
It looked iffy, but the chippy shit was happening nearly every play at the time and the refs needed to quell it, probably.
Unlike most others, I had no sound, being in a noisy sports bar that eliminates audible commentary. Of course there is a gain in that too -- even at home I routinely cut the sound because I hate the nonstop chatter.
In slow-mo, it looked like he woke up mid-body slam and tried to stop and a teammate was trying to stop him, too. But alas, they were too late.
He deserved the call for being stupid. It was unnecessary roughness. It just didn't end up as bad as it looked like it was going to be.
It didn't seem as bad as it first looked. But still.
before he even started to lift him in the air. I think that was the reason for the flag more than anything else.
whistle either. I give defender’s leeway in those situations when they’re processing pieces of information at odds with each other. But these days you have to expect to be flagged for suplexes.
here in Bakersfield back around 1977.
We had monthly meetings, in uniform in the Assembly Room at the Bakersfield Police Department.
Our Reserve Coordinator swore this new guy in.
The new guy looked good - tall, about 6 foot 1, broad in the shoulders, narrow waist, about 220. Solid.
The guy next to me whispered, “He’s a good kickboxer. Looks like he can handle himself.”
“Hmm, I thought. Might be good if things go to fist city.” I was never good at that stuff. My skill, if I had any, was the ability to speak softly and talk a guy into the handcuffs. And, I was never a prick about it. I always pressed the tiny lock on the Peerless handcuffs that prevented them from tightening - something not every officer did during an arrest.
At our next month’s Reserve meeting, I didn’t see the new guy, the kickboxer.
At the break, I asked our Coordinator Lieutenant Cleo Blackburn, “What happened to the new guy, the kickboxer?”
Cleo smiled and said, “Him? We had to get rid of him?”
“Why?” I said.
Cleo said, “He was using his kickboxing skills out in the field. Plus, he had a short fuse. Macho jerk. We can have that. Too provocative.”
I filed that away: don’t try to kickbox people out in the field. Good advice.
STFU, Jason.
If he gets paid by the amount of words he's a billionaire.
That was grating.
