overtime NCAA Tournament game against them conceivably cost ND a National Championship; ND losing to the ultimate NCAA champ MSU the following night by a goal. ND carried the #1 into that tournament.
Helluva team with Pearce in goal, and guys like Thang, Condra, Sheahan, Hanson, Jindra, et al playing in front of him.
Damn you Huntsville!
With a 2-0 lead we then got 5 straight power play opportunities and played 10 of the next 18 minutes up a skater and could not pot goal number 3. I think a PP goal on any of those man-advantages would have done in Huntsville.
I think a lot of us agree that it cost a real chance at the title, because had we won that game easily we would have had so much more left in the tank for MSU and it was clear at times we were gassed in that game. One nit though, it was David Brown in net for the Irish.
And Tim Kennedy can still go eff himself......
two members of the WCHA after the other seven teams leave in the fall of 2021.
after the 2020/21 academic year.
is starting as a club sport with the ultimate goal of becoming a Division I team . . . kinda emulating Arizona State.
to become a D1 program given that their league recently expelled them from their conference because they were too good!
they are going straight to a division 1 program. The Coronavirus issues may have delayed their original planning, but they were supposedly going to field an independent team this upcoming season. If they still manage to do so, the absence of Huntsville on some schedules might open the door for them to schedule a full season.
That's what I heard as well. I believe they are planning on playing a hybrid D1/club schedule for a couple years as they ramp up, but the plan (at least was) to immediately implement the process of becoming a D1 program.
