and NCHC gets a team in the Twin Cities, which should help other schools with recruiting.
Particularly Mankato....sorry guys, you should have been located in Twin Cities!
And that might be unfair to armpits.
But in all seriousness, being in the twin cities is more valuable to the NCHC than being on the iron range or in a non descript river town.
The St. Thomas women have been playing in the WCHA for a couple years and it’s the best women’s collegiate conference by a wide margin. Of all the sports at UST, hockey (men and women) seems the most natural to compete at a high D1 level.
The women have taken the usual lumps to be expected with the jump from D3 into a powerhouse conference, but both they and the men will be more than competitive soon enough. The men took your (and my) hated Gophers into OT early last season. The women had a few reasonably competitive games against Minnesota and some others last year.
To your point, Mankato and BSU may not be thrilled but I think the handwriting was on the wall when UST jumped to D1.
