Genuinely Gracious and Loving

At the 2010 Reunion, my wife, Jan, and I were told by my brother (ND 1990) Coach Holtz would be the speaker at their dinner. We elected to skip mine and attend his dinner for a chance to see Lou yet again. Arriving, there was a long line up the stairs to the ACC concourse for photos with him. We waited, along with many others. About 12 or so spots from our slot, someone came by to inform Lou he had to get ready to speak. He apologized and the crew began taking down the photo set. Passing by him on the way to our table, I shared my appreciation for his love of Notre Dame and introduced my wife as a two time and recent breast cancer survivor. "Set that camera back up!" He hugged Jan like he knew her. It is a treasured photo.
