Of all days, it was my turn to present my short story in class. In the spirit of "better to ask forgiveness than permission", I blew it off to go see Lou. Cost me a full letter grade drop, as I recall.

My three roommates and I snuck out the back door of the COBA Lecture Hall right after Lou's talk, correctly anticipating him to use the same exit. We intercepted him and got a group photo. Lou later signed four copies of that photo for each of us: "Always believe in yourself & your future - Lou Holtz". Hangs in my office to this day.

It's a true story that turned out greater than any fiction I would've shared in class.
