Bendu Yeaney, who also graduated high school in 2017 like Danielle. She's coming home to Oregon (she'd from Portland) after playing her 1st 2 years at Indiana, sitting out a year and playing 2 years at Arizona including playing for the National CHampionship against Stanford.
is a perfect example of what I expected Benchers would come up with, because of all that's been going on the last few years.
Thanks for your play and knowledge.
I came up with one more from 2017, a McD and Jordan All American with an indirect Notre Dame connection. Same sort of stuff, her third school, sat out a year due to transfer rules.
Even reading yours and Dillon's threads I am still not sure.
One 2017 high school grad, who will be playing in the coming season, played for Notre Dame.
[Domerduck named Danielle Patterson.]
The other, also a McD and Jordan All American, has well-known, but indirect, ties to Notre Dame.
..if I catch your drift correctly:
- how many year of eligibility has an athlete had, including those that she either played, sat out due to injuries or transfers. Patberg has a few of each.
- how many seasons/parts of seasons did the athlete actually play?
These ND athletes come to mind:
- Dara Mabrey is on her 5th year of actively playing, using the Covid bonus given by the NCAA to her advantage. We all know Dara's trail: first two years playing at Va. Tech;, then, transfer to ND where she'll play three years.
- Lauren Ebo will be starting her 5th year of playing, utilizing -- like Dara -- the Covid bonus year. She, however, is on her third school:
-- 2018-19: Played at Penn State
-- 2019-20: Played at Penn State
-- 2020-21: Played at Texas
-- 2021-22: Played at Texas
-- 2022-23: Will Play at ND
- Jenna Brown is also on her 5th year of eligibility, but only the third of playing:
-- 2018-19: Played at Stanford
-- 2019-20: Played at Stanford
-- 2020-2021: Medical Redshirt
-- 2021-2022: Didn't see Game Action for Stanford
-- 2022-2023: Will (knock on wood) play for ND
So, no Ali Patbergs, to the best of my knowledge. BTW, if Kate Gilbert and/or Abby Prohaska had stuck around, they, too, would've been on their fifth year of playing. Not having to take the transfer year (sitting out) and/or the bonus Covid year changes the dynamics.
I guess the real question I'm asking is who is the player (or players) who graduated from high school the earliest and is eligible (on the roster) to play in the upcoming 2022-23 season.
I think Ali Patberg must have been the earliest high school grad who played last year—2015. Others who graduated in 2016 who were still playing last year were Katie Benzan (Harvard & Maryland), Natalie Chou (Baylor & UCLA), and Nancy Mulkey (Oklahoma, Rice, Washington).
So, I'm including injuries, transfers, or other extraordinary events that allowed a player from the earliest high school graduating class to play this coming season.
Jenna Brown—good, I could add another ND player, Lauren Ebo.
Dara is a good one, but surely there must be someone who graduated before 2018 who is on a D1 roster. Maya, from 2017, almost made it.
who will be playing in the coming 2022-23 season
I won't reveal, but both were McD and Jordan Classic All Americans and both have a Notre Dame connection (one, more than the other)
As I say, there are probably more. Is there anyone from the 2016 class who will play in 2022-23?
