Women's college basketball reduced the ball circumference in 1984. Burke would have been in college by then; so unless NJ high schools made the change earlier than college did, she's handling a bigger ball than what's used today.

undefeated (5-0) as a player against Auriemma's UConn squad while at Providence (her last college game was the end of a 16 game Providence win streak against the Huskies). Of course, it was during Auriemma's first two seasons at UConn (12-15 and 14-13), but still.

Man! 16 gms? I love factoids like this. It IS in our DNA * *

just how much UConn sucked before Auriemma got there. As much as they have dominated lately, it was a huge building project.

The first 3 years in the Big East they had a combined conference record of 4-28. They didn't have a winning record against St. John's until 1995 (They started the series 1-15 vs SJU). They didn't have a winning record against Villanova until 1997 (They started 0-14 vs Nova). They didn't have a winning record vs Providence until 1998 (Started 1-16 vs PC).

When she was still broadcasting womens' games during the Michaela (Mabrey1) era, she would also bring that connection up.
