UNC's AD Is A Double Domer & Worked In ND's AD
by dillon77 (2019-04-20 15:57:11)

I kept staring at the various articles on Hatchell's being let go and thought Bubba Cunningham looked familiar. Graduated in early 80s, got a grad degree, then worked in various ND AD capacities until he went to Ball State, Tulsa and, now, UNC. (see below).

He left ND in 2002, so he knows Muffet for sure, Niele and Beth (as players) and Carol (first time around) as a coach.

This will be the second search for a major D1 program run by an AD who has Notre Dame connections. Marquette AD Bill Scholl, whno worked at ND, ran a search that resulted in the hiring of Megan Duffy, who was playing PG for the Irish when he worked in South Bend. From first contact to introduction in Milwaukee took some 48 hours.

Now Cunningham has to replace a virtual icon who ended on a bad note. Former star Charlotte Smith, who has done a solid job at Elon, was once thought to be Hatchell's heir apparent, but it might be tough selling anyone who is in the Hatchell tree.

So, could Bubba make a call to South Bend, perhaps to MM, to see if she thinks any of her three aide-de-camps would be right for the position?

If anyone on the board is familiar with Cunningham, would like to hear your input.

Stay tuned...this could be interesting.

I have hear about him. By know stretches am I the expert. Just somre of the
things I have read.

...What I have read he is a real standup guy but a straight shooter. What I
seen and read about him he is a true standup guy. He is fair but tough when
the need arises like now.

...He like many AD's will go after people he knows. I would think one of his
first calls would be to MM. Do not think Carol will leave MM. Still do not
know that status of Nieles son. So I do not think she will go unless he
leaves South Bend. The only one I think on the staff that may leave
would be Beth. But things I read she was worn out from the head coaching
job. Is she ready for the challenge in the South. The talent is down
there to be successful.

...There are alot of options out there with ND ties. I think Washington
would be a great fit. She turned around PSU. She would have more talent
available in the south. I know she was just picked up by OU, but
probably could get out of it for a head coaching job.

...There are alot of assistant coaches out there that played for MM. I
am sure one of them would be intereted in the position.

...Like mentioned before. Not always good to follow a legend. However,
NC has some serious problems that requires just the right coach. Someone
that can successfully mix toughness with concern.

Just my few words.

P.S. Bubba Leave the 3 Musketeers alone.

I struggle quite a bit with him.

Given NC's position taken with their academic scandal, I find it very difficult to maintain any respect for him.

UNC Accademic Scandal

The problem is not just the school that does the deed. UNC is not the first
only or last school involved in academic fraud or serious issues. Over the
years quite a few schools have had their issues. The problem is the NCAA
and their rulings or none ruling. I hate mentioning schools by name but
some of the south schools and west coast have had problems. It is how
they were handled by the NCAA that drove me up the wall. The more money
the bigger the school the longer the NCAA took to rule or not rule.
Sometimes turn the other cheek or give a slap on the wrist. Than out of
no where they will out of no where come down hard on a school. What they
did to the 2012 ND football team was an over killed. Taking away about
a year and half of wins after ND already took measures to punish the
people involved.

...Bottom line is the NCAA needs to clean up their shop and be consistant
and timely in their decisions on all cases. Look how long the Bush
decision took. I still did not think it was tough enough.

So let me get this straight.

Because the NCAA is terrible in how it manages misconduct (which it is), then the fraud or rules breaking that has occurred at places like North Carolina and others isn't that big of a deal to you because the NCAA can't get it together? I'm trying not to parse your words but I'm not sure I follow your reasoning.

I don't know Bubba Cunningham at all. Maybe he is a good guy who just exercised poor judgement. My simple point was that for anyone in leadership to sign off on a response that basically says....yes, we committed academic fraud but since it was available to anyone at the school then our athletic department should not be penalized.....they really aren't exercising any leadership at all that I care to admire.

Fraud is Cheating
by hempfield75  (2019-04-22 02:20:42)     cannot delete  |  Edit  |  Return to Board  |  Ignore Poster   |   Highlight Poster  |   Reply to Post

Sorry you misunderstood me. I must not have been very in my article.
I apologize for that. I hate schools that fraud. Fraud is cheating at
the highest level which should be dealt with at the most severe
academic and athletic penalties. I have seen over the years so many
schools pull the fast one over the NCAA or the NCAA is just lazy or
both.

...The NCAA has been so inconsistent over the years on handing down their
decisions. In many cases the player and or coaches involved are no
longer at the school and the students that are punished are innocent
of the charges. Auburn is one school I can think of off the top of
my head.

...Bottom line. Most universities and students adhere to the academic
and athletic laws of the land. There are a few that have pushed the
envelope over the years and have gotten away with it. North Caroline
got caught and will be punished I hope appropriately. I also think
in a case link Hatchell she should lose some priviledges and orders
awarded her over the years. I believe she is a member of the Hall of
Fame. If proven guilty of being part of this fraud. She is no longer
in good standing and in my opinion should have the honor removed.

...Years aga SMU was put on the death penalty for multiple problems
found in the football program. This was during the Eric Dickerson and
Craig James era the university. SMU still has not fully recovered from
that penalty.

...My stand is cheating to make yourself or team better than your
competition is one of the worse if no worse infracctions that a
coach, player or administrator can do. This to me warrants the
academic/athletic death penalty on that Universities program involved.

...I hope this clears up what I was meaning to say. I did not really
want to go so much into depth of this problem. I can not support that
kinda abuse in a program, especially a high profile program like
North Carolina.

I apologize to the board for being to wordy on this issue that means
a lot to me and I take very seriously.

Thanks for having me clear up my meaning in my last post. Greatly
appreciated.
