ESPN Mock draft: No ND players, but 5 from Oregon schools

are in the first 10 projected: #1 (Sabrina), #3 (Satou), #7 (Ruthie), #8 (Destiny), and #10 (Mikayla). The first 3 are Ducks and the last two are Beavers. Those 5 Oregon players were the only from the PAC12, but no other schools had more than 1 of their players projected in the 1st round. The others were led by #2 Baylor's Lauren Cox, 1 of 3 Big 12 players. The ACC, SEC, and Big 10 only had 1 player each with UConn having one of it's players, as usual, projected to be drafted in the 1st round: Dangerfield at #6..

After May's historic ND draft, we will be lucky to get any player drafted, but certainly no one in the first round. It will be interesting to see how the year unfolds. Still I do feel lucky to be able to see these great college players so close to my home this coming season.

We don't have anyone eligible for the draft except transfers

Sniezek and Walker , and I guess former walk-on Cole.

Maybe Mikayla Vaughn could be eligible (don't know her birthday)

Bella Alarie Will Get Drafted in the First Round...

..She's 6'4", has a skill set that produces inside and outside, will only get stronger and has intelligence (basketball and otherwise) that will help immensely. I think new Princeton coach Carla Berube will hopefully add some teaching to what Courtney Banghart (now at UNC) did the first three years.

In fact, I could see her at Indiana if Satou Sabally decides to stay in Eugene to get one year in playing with her (injured) sister.

If not Indiana, I think Dallas could use a forward to complement Cox and Izzy Harrision and Alarie would be great there. No way Wings take a guard in the first round. Could see Charles from Maryland, who is a big guard/wing in the Jackie Young style.

Good for you for being able to see some fine talent on the West Coast...I'm jealous. Ever since the demise of the Big East, it's been tough to find good/great D1 games in the metro NYC area (I used to see ND and UConn play Seton Hall, Rutgers, etc.).

You like those Jersey girls, but someone should tell ESPN. *

This Article Struck Me as Way-Too-Early, and Click-Baity

...that was written over the summer and stored with this in mind. And not updated by the editors (I'd have to think Voepel would've done that...)

- Main thinking for this:Tynice Martin of West Virginia was suspended indefinitely by West Virginia in mid-summer and charged for domestic battery in August. Given that -- and the fact that she might not play this year -- I'd think a first-round draft choice is pretty sketchy now this far out.

- IMHO, ESPN and it's core of writers -- led by Mechelle Voepel and Charlie Creme -- do concentrate on the schools that are in the P5 universe. I get that for the NCAA's, but for the draft? Talent comes from a lot of places. And sometimes it takes awhile for even those at D1 programs to develop (see Erica Wheeler, Dearca (sp) Hamby). The Ivy League is not a usual source of WNBA talent....
- Respect and like Alarie's game, but not sure Bella qualifies as a "Jersey Girl." She plays in Jersey but is from Bethesda, Maryland and goes to school at Princeton, which is a nation unto itself. We are not talking Mabreyesque Jersey Shore here, let alone the Essex to Passaic counties corridor where a lot of "do you like my elbows?" Jersey hoops is played. Marina and Myisha Hines-Allen are Jersey girls. Bella, as much as I like her, is not.
- This is more like us Benchers rooting for or liking the non-Hooser girls that play for ND or you wathing the recruits Kelly Graves and Scott Rueck brings into the Oregon schools. I like the kid's game.
- What I'm most basing my opinion of with Alarie is her constant calling up to the U.S. National teams. (attached).
- BTW, I like all Oregon players mentioned: Ionescu will be the new "It" girls of the wNBA and Queen of Brooklyn and the Barclay Center as the Liberty move there from Westchester. Hell, I'll cross two rivers from Jersey to see her (and then have dinner with my Prospect Park-based eldest daughter)! And I think Hebard will do well, too, as well as she's got a PG with adept passing skills. I could see her helping Atlanta and rejoining Maite Carzola.

Lastly, I have a hard time believing anyone will draft UConn's Crystal Dangerfield that early in the first round. She's only 5'5" tall. Talented, yes, but she was not a primary worry of the Irish when they played. I'd like to see how she does now that Collier and KLS are gone. Will she step up in scoring or will she distribute to Megatron and Williams?

Your analysis, as usual. spot on * I knew Alarie was only

playing in Jersey is from Maryland. Still as a transplanted Oregonian, I have no problem claiming those Walnut Creek (Cal), Alaska, and German Ducks as well as the Idaho and Washington Beavers as Oregonians while they are in school here.

Probably good for Arike & Sky that Dallas didn't get 1st pic

With Ionescu the obvious #1, Arike and Skylar would have to share PT or even be on the trading block.

And now Cox (probable #2 pick) can finally play on team with ND players (still in denial - she should have been Irish)
