Any thoughts about the idea of starting the basketball

season in January with a schedule of only conference games? I had some conversations with friends about this last week and then saw Rick Pitino tweeting positively about the idea yesterday.

ND announced yesterday that all performing arts events for the fall semester have been canceled. This is not a good sign for any indoor events on campus.

ND has not yet released fall schedules for cross country, soccer, or volleyball. These schedules are usually released during June. If volleyball doesn't have a season, then I believe that basketball is headed for a January start at best.

The Ivy League will soon announce its plans for fall sports. My guess is that they will not allow any fall athletic competition and that this will influence other colleges and the NCAA.

For now, college football is a go and the coronavirus is its major opponent. There is a lot riding for intercollegiate athletics on who wins this contest.

Will play a 22 game schedule, That includes conference tournaments. Since TV $$ aren't involved, I presume they will cancel conference championship tournaments. a 22 game schedule would start in mid-December.

Conference only? ACC plays 20games and the Ivies 14? Doesn't sound right.

The Ivies Decision on July 8th Will Be Key...

It was pretty much their decision on closing down spring sports in early March that set off the domino effect.

I'm starting to think this approach makes a lot of sense:

- Winter sports start in January;
- Fall and spring sports in the spring. (wow, MPG, you'd be busy).

Given what's going on in the south and west, I can't see how any sports will confidently say we're on, come September (forget late August).

If Pitino is for it, it is probably a rotten idea. *
