Born and raised in Panama, long removed before soccer

made it to my consciousness.

From my recollection, Panama didn’t even have a soccer league. In fact, most Panamanians - a place where people from many nationalities have collided in - were always passionate about the South American powers Brazil or Argentina, Costa Rica, or even Spain or Italy, whose ancestry most still call they’re descendants from, including yours truly.

The 1994 World Cup made me fall in love with the USMNT and I never looked back. I was madder that the US didn’t make the World Cup, than happy that Panama finally did it.

I don’t know where I’m going with this, and I know for sure I won’t bat an eye about it today. Nonetheless, for this little nation crazy mad about this, that feels they’ve already won their Super Bowl by qualifying, I just hope it’s not a bloodbath.

Go Marea Roja, make it a decent showing.
