ND's Kate (Sobrero) Markgraf Hired as First USWNT GM

ND alum Kate (Sobrero) Markgraf has reportedly been hired as the first-ever general manager of the U.S. Women's National Team, according to several published reports (one of which is linked below).

Her first, and perhaps most important, order of business is to lead a search and hire a new coach for the USWNT to replace departing Jill Ellis. There's a degree of urgency because the USWNT, coming off the World Cup win this summer, has to get ready for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo next summer.

Kate, of course, had a great playing career, both at ND and as a long-time defensive stalwart for the USWNT. I've enjoyed her commentary both as an in-game analyst and studio guest.

Great to see ND representation at the "C" levels of women's soccer in the U.S.

If it's anything like the men, she won't be hiring.

Search for the new coach, but not actually deciding on the hiring. That was one of the whispered difficulties that the men's side had when hiring a GM - no actual power to do things.

Hopefully we can find an English speaking coach
