2nd round in the NWSL draft. . Also a third round Chicago pick was a player who was at the last game Sammi played at Arkansas is Kayla McKeon, another midfielder. Chicago had no players drafted in the 1st round so she should have a good shot making the team, although they did draft 5 players in the 4 rounds of the NWSL draft. There were 50 players drafted with the PAC12 having 11 total taken (from 6 schools) while the ACC had 10 (from 7 schools), but those two conferences accounted for the 1st 7 players taken overall.

It would be good for ND to have a pro in the NWSL as I don't believe we've had one for a few years. I know Morgan Andrews who transferred from ND to USC may be the only one who has played at all at ND who has a roster. Just to compare other top college programs that fill NWSL rosters (using a 2020 article-linked), UNC had 22, UCLA had 17, FSU had 15, UVA had 13, Stanford had 12, Santa Clara had 9, Portland had 8, USC had 8, PSU had 7, Florida had 6, Georgetown had 5, Rutgers/Duke/Washington all had 4, and sixteen other schools who had 3, 2, or at least 1 player. Notre Dame had ZERO of the 57 ACC players who came from only 6 programs. It's a far cry from the days when we had multiple ND alumni on US and Canadian national teams. Luckily we still have some ND alumnus in National team leadership like Kate Markgraf (nee Sobrero), GM of the US women's national team and Melissa Tacredi, assistant coach on the Olympic Gold medal Canadian national team. Hard to be a leader in college soccer without players going to the professional or national team levels.

Good luck Sammi making it as a professional!
